The Ranger simply provides a gear between each of your existing gears and converts your 4 speed to an "8 speed". When used as a gear splitter, you will be able to keep the engine RPM loss at a minimum, thus preventing the usual winding and lugging of the 4 speed transmission and engine. This works great for both diesel and gas pickup trucks.

I actually have atlas4 speed so my gear ratios in the t-case are 1:1, 2.72:1, 3.8:1, & 10.34:1 So I can chose between Overall 27:1 74:1 103:1 and 278:1 I think this range would be comparabe to duals? I actually was going to do duals, but not having a t-case to start with would have made it too expensive I think?

Since the H42 transmission had a spacer instead of a 5th gear, it also had a crossbar for reinforcement, causing a lot of bad things to happen, at least for people wishing for a swap.
Depending upon the production year, the Super T-10 transmission had varying gear ratios. From 1974 until 1977, the transmission ratio was 2.43-to-1 for first gear, 1.61-to-1 for second gear, 1.23-to-1 for third gear and 1.00-to-1 for fourth gear.
It’s a manual-shift, synchronized 2-speed transmission. Engage the clutch, push the lever forward for overdrive, or pull it back for 1:1 ratio – in any gear that the 4 speed may be engaged, including reverse. There seems to be a (very small) neutral position in the middle of the shift stroke but I can’t think of a reason to actually use it.
